If so, the Tri-Valley Community Foundation in collaboration with La Clinica de La Raza has an exciting part-time Community Outreach Educator/Promotor(a) position serving the adult community in the Cultura y Bienestar project, funded by Alameda County Behavioral Health. In this role you will promote mental health, educate and support Latino community members and community based organizations and that serve the Latino community.

Duties and Responsibilities: • Provide education and information on wellness and mental health promotion through ongoing workshops and meetings incorporating cultural wellness practices as appropriate to the Latino population within the assigned age group. • Facilitate support groups for adult Latino community members in different community locations in the Tri-Valley, including Livermore, Pleasanton and Dublin. • Conduct outreach activities at local events inviting community members to participate in program activities and connect with community resources. • Coordinate with other community organizations, churches, schools, etc. to deliver wellness and mental health promotion presentations to community members. • Provide referrals to community members for social, health and MH services as needed. • Meet with adults one-on-one in the project's client offices to determine whether they need early intervention services. Consult with the Mental Health Specialist following the appointment to identify next steps for the client. • Conduct community and home-based prevention and early intervention visits to individuals and families (max. 6 per year) to provide strengths, reduce mental health risk factors, and provide linkage and referral services as needed. • Recruit, train and support community members to be Volunteer Leaders/Promotores who will participate in and extend project activities to the wider Latino community. • Attend and participate in staff meetings and trainings and follow-up with team plans. • Record individual and family contacts with the information required for this project and keep sign in sheets for support groups, workshops, and community events.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bilingual English/Spanish required, bicultural preferred. Requires high school diploma or equivalent. B.A. desired, with a degree in psychology or human development a plus. Requires one year of experience providing direct supportive services in the community. • Experience providing support, education, and/or advocacy within the Latino community. Experience may be gained through employment, internships, or volunteer work. Must have experience serving adults. • Must be committed to addressing issues of stigma and discrimination related to mental health issues. Experience with community outreach and engagement methods. • Strong group facilitation, presentation and organizational skills required. • Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills, and computer skills essential. Ability to work as part of a team. Strong problems solving skills. • Knowledge of, and respect for, a variety of distinct Latino communities in Alameda County. Familiarity with cultural wellness practices and the role of importance of traditional healing. • Reliable transportation needed and must be comfortable with driving requirements.
